Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course

 

Programs

Interfaith Health & Wellness is committed to providing programming needs for Faith Community Nurses in southeastern Florida. Through an assessment of educational needs, offerings include programs for new and practicing Faith Community Nurses and individuals interested in furthering their understanding of a Faith Community Nurse practice. Programming includes: Basic Preparation course for Faith Community Nurses, Chronic Disease Self-Management training, Faith Community Nurse Coalition networking meetings, FCN Mentor Program- mentoring in churches, synagogues, and mosques, Spring Awards Luncheon, webinars, and preparation for Board Certification.

Foundations of Faith Community Nursing

Open to all faiths, the "Foundations of Faith Community Nursing" Basic Preparation is a comprehensive course of study offered through partnerships with the Church Health Center/International Parish Nurse Resource Center and IHWA, and provided through an annual week-long course & retreat or internet learning.

The Basic Preparation Course facilitates: 

  • Differentiating between body (physical), mind (mental & emotional) and spiritual (social) dimensions of individuals

  • Assessing needs

  • Recognizing the various components of the parish nursing role

  • Understanding theological concepts from Christian, Jewish and eastern religions that affect individual healing and wellness

  • Discovering the various components of a health ministry as they relate to community health and wellness

Basic Preparation Curriculum

Retreat Experience

Interfaith Health and Wellness in partnership with the Church Health Center/International Parish Nurse Resource Center offers the Foundations curriculum leading to a certificate of attendance for Faith Community Nursing.  This course begins Monday at 9 am and ends Friday afternoon with a commissioning ceremony.

Annual Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course & Retreat

$695 (includes 38.5 contact hours, lodging,

meals, snacks, materials, IPNRC pin and certificate.)

Commuter rate of $80 daily. 

Scholarships are available.

Chronic Disease Self Management

Leader Training

for Faith Community Nurses

Living Healthy workshops for people with on-going health conditions provides self-management tools for better breathing and muscle relaxation, nutrition, exercise, communication and cognitive skills, pain and fatigue management, and action planning.  A free four-day leader class is offered to Faith Community Nurses who wish to team up with a member of their congregation who has a chronic condition to lead the six-week workshops.  For more information, dates & location of classes, call 561-345-2000 ext.256.
