Programs
As part of its mission, Interfaith Health & Wellness Association (IHWA)
is committed to providing programming needs for faith-based (parish) nurses
in southeastern Florida. Through an assessment of educational needs,
offerings include programs for practicing faith-based nurses
and individuals interested in furthering their understanding of a Faith
Community Nurse practice. Examples of programming include: the Basic Standard
Curriculum
for parish nursing, faith-based nurse networking, “train the trainer”
sessions in preparation for health ministry programs in synagogues, churches,
and mosques, and holistic nursing practice
Basic Preparation Curriculum for Faith Community Nursing:
Programs leading to a certificate in Parish Nursing are offered through
partnerships with the International Parish Nurse
Resource Center in St. Louis, Missouri and IHWA. The standard curriculum
for parish nursing is provided in a variety of formats: a week-long retreat
(summer), modular learning (completing all one-day modules), and internet
learning.
The basic preparation curriculum assists in:

Differentiating between body
(physical), mind (mental & emotional) and spiritual (social) dimensions
of individuals

Assessing needs

Recognizing the various components
of the parish nursing role

Understanding theological
concepts from Christian, Jewish and eastern religions that affect
individual healing and wellness

various components of a health ministry as they relate to community health and wellness
